After an alleged kidnapping on Saturday night, former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga was released on Sunday night.
Njenga, who is said to have been kidnapped together with his assistant Felix Lakishe, was left in the Banana neighborhood of Kiambu County at about 10:00 pm.
Ndegwa Njiru, his attorney, claims that the kidnappers blindfolded Njenga and Lakishe on Saturday night before taking off in a car to an unidentified location.
“He (Njenga) says he was blindfolded and put in the vehicle. He was then driven for long distance and taken to a well-furnished apartment. He was told he was in Naivasha,” He said.
According to the lawyer, Njenga was once again blindfolded when the kidnappers drove away to a different location after hours of interaction.
“When they stopped they told him that he was in Banana and he can find his way home. He took a motorbike and traced his way back home,” he added.
Hours after the Azimio la Umoja alliance reported the kidnapping and charged police with arranging it, the man was freed.
