From January 1st, over 3000 Kenyans were killed and injured in traffic incidents, according to NTSA

3,090 Kenyans have been involved in traffic accidents between January 1 and February 11, 2024, resulting in either fatalities or injuries, according to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

The authority issued information showing that 1,403 victims had critical injuries, 1,124 suffered minor injuries, and 563 victims died.

Among road-user categories, according to the NTSA, there were 216 pedestrian fatalities, 246 serious injuries, and 61 minor injuries.

Of the drivers, 35 died, 103 had serious injuries, and 108 suffered minor injuries.

There were 99 passenger fatalities reported, 535 passengers with serious injuries, and 755 passengers with minor injuries.

140 motorcycle riders lost their lives, 303 suffered serious injuries, and 86 received minor ones; 54 pillion riders perished, 202 suffered serious injuries, and 110 received minor ones.

There have been nine reported deaths among cyclists, fourteen serious injuries, and four minor injuries.

The number of accidents is significantly higher than the 2,384 recorded in 2023 for the same period.
