Two school buses collided on the morning of Wednesday, April 5, along the Kagio-Baricho route in Kirinyaga County, resulting in one fatality and numerous injuries among the pupils.
Police officers arrived to assess the situation as nearby residents raced to rescue those trapped in the two vehicles. Welders were also on the scene to cut through the car’s components to free the casualties.
According to pictures obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the buses collided on the side, shattering the windows and damaging the front sections. First aid was given to the injured as emergency personnel hurried them to local hospitals.
The body of the deceased was transported to a neighbouring morgue by ferry.
Consequently, one of the locals claimed that after hearing noises, they hurried to the site of the accident after the buses collided ten minutes later.
“We rushed and rescued the students from the bus and took those who were severely injured to the hospital,” the resident stated.
According to reports, the deceased was the manager of one of the institutions and passed away immediately.

“At around 6 am in the morning, we came here trying to save the students. The two buses were taking the students to school,” another resident recounted.
