The government has unveiled revised half-term schedules for both primary and secondary schools.

On Wednesday, May 29, 2024, the Ministry of Education announced revised dates for the term two half-term break. In a circular addressed to all County Directors of Education, the Ministry stated that the half-term break would now take place from June 26th to 30th, 2024, instead of the previously scheduled dates of June 20th to 23rd.

Dr. Kipsang, the Education PS, emphasized in the circular the potential need for adjustments to planned activities and schedules due to this change. County Directors of Education were instructed to disseminate this information to all Head Teachers and Principals within their jurisdiction.

Furthermore, the Ministry specified that learners in boarding schools should resume classes on June 30, 2024. It was also noted that these alterations might require modifications to planned activities and schedules in schools nationwide.

Schools were initially scheduled to commence on April 29, but due to heavy rains and floods across the country, the Ministry opted to postpone the start date. Consequently, most schools reopened on May 13, marking a two-week delay. Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu announced on May 9 that the second term would be prolonged for an unspecified duration to compensate for the time lost.

Machogu specified that measures would be taken, particularly for Form Four candidates, to recover the lost time by extending the term by a few days. He mentioned the possibility of reducing the duration of the August break, which was initially planned for three weeks.

The CS emphasized that despite the extension of the second term, the dates for the national examinations would remain unchanged.
