In the event that former President Donald Trump is detained this week as part of a hush-money investigation, police in key American cities are ready for potential violence.

Authorities are increasing their law enforcement presence in New York, Washington, DC, and Los Angeles.  

Regarding allegations that he bribed a porn actor to stay quiet about the alleged affair they had, a Manhattan prosecutor may press charges against Mr. Trump.

It would be the first time a former US president had been charged with a crime.

When charges are brought this week, as is generally expected by US media, steel barricades were being built outside the Manhattan Criminal Court, where Mr. Trump might be charged, fingerprinted, and photographed.

Also, there has been more police presence in the area around Trump Tower.

A police source told CBS, the American partner of the BBC, that every member of the New York Police Department (NYPD), including plainclothes detectives, has been ordered to wear their full uniform on Tuesday and is being put on standby to mobilize.

Since Mr. Trump posted online on Saturday that he anticipated being detained on Tuesday, US intelligence agencies have noticed an increase in internet threats against judicial and governmental personnel, according to CBS.

Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan District Attorney who is generally anticipated to charge Mr. Trump, was the target of the majority of the threats.
