Didmus Barasa: “Gachagua Is Mudavadi’s Boss, Their Roles Are Not the Same”

Didmus Barasa, a member of parliament from Kimilili, has commented on the positions of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
This comes after President William Ruto appointed Mudavadi to the top cabinet position on Tuesday while announcing the names of the men and women he has chosen to serve in his Cabinet.

The two leaders’ roles are hierarchically distinct, so there shouldn’t be a problem figuring out each other’s position in President Ruto’s administration, Barasa said in response to a group of politicians who asserted that DP Gachagua and Prime CS Mudavadi’s roles might overlap when the latter assumes office.

“I don’t see any duplication of roles between the Prime Cabinet Secretary and the Deputy President. The president made it very clear that after him in terms of hierarchy there is his deputy, Gachagua, then we have the Prime Cabinet Secretary,” said the MP in a Wednesday interview with K24 TV.

Although Mudavadi would be in charge of all Cabinet Secretaries in President Ruto’s government, Barasa emphasized that he will report to DP Gachagua.

“He simply said that the roles that are being played by Musalia Mudavadi would be monitored by the deputy president and that is not duplication. Musalia Mudavadi’s boss is Rigathi Gachagua, and Gachagua’s boss is William Samoei Ruto,” he said.

Former vice president Mudavadi will likely hold “the most senior office after the office of the president and deputy president,” according to Dr. Ruto on Tuesday.

Ruto continued by listing Mudavadi’s five primary duties should he be elected to office:
