Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers in the area have been threatened with dismissal by Kisii Governor Simba Arati if they attempt to carry out their threat to stop teaching on September 14, 2023.
Before Arati expressed her views, the ECDE teachers had alerted the police of their intention to strike, which they claim was motivated by the Kisii County government’s alleged refusal to address their complaints, which included wage raises.
Governor Arati mentioned that there are many qualified but unemployed ECDE teachers who are prepared to fill the places of their colleagues who are headed for the protests while speaking to the general public in Kisii town on Thursday.
“We kuja, fanya maandamano…ukimaliza ujue kuna watu wengi. We can employ those people. Huwezi kuwa unalipwa pesa tena unakuja kuandamana…ati tukuweke kwa payroll,” he said.
Indicating that his administration intends to hire volunteer instructors, he continued by saying that he will not watch helplessly as students miss out on an education during the aforementioned demonstration period.
“Wacha watoto wasisome siku hiyo…mtajua. Tutahakikisha kuna walimu wengi volunteers, wataenda kufundisha huko. Hamwezi tutishia sisi hapa,” said the bullish county boss.
