Losses as Homes in Mumias East, Kakamega County, Are Torched by Suspected Arsonists

Following an attack by alleged arsonists, at least 10 families in Mumias East, Kakamega County, are counting their losses.

Families from Mumias East’s Mulufu and Butunyi villages complained about an uptick in cattle theft incidents.

The rustlers may have set houses on fire to divert residents’ attention before driving the animals away.

Residents in other parts of Butunyi described the terrifying incident that resulted in the burning of several homes.

“My son informed me that some of our cows were missing. We trailed them to the main highway, where they were due for transportation,” one of the victims said.

Locals have demanded action from the government while also blaming the local security personnel.
