Lawyer Danstan Omari Defends Matiangi On His Trip To UK Amidst DCI Summon

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, according to attorney Danstan Omari, visited the United Kingdom to attend to family concerns.

Speaking to one of the local media stations on the morning of March 1, Omari refuted rumors that his client had fled due to his DCI summons. The attorney also hinted that Matiang’i fled the nation on February 19th, a Sunday.

“There is nothing sinister about his travel. He is there to attend to an urgent private family matter and shall return to resume his ordinary routine as a private citizen,” he stated in a subsequent statement. The former CS would return to the nation in due course, thus Kenyans should stop speculating about the trip, he continued.

Matiang’i was supposed to spend two weeks in the UK, the lawyer claimed.

A day after receiving a letter from the Immigration Department informing the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) that the former CS was abroad, Omari made his testimony.

He had been scheduled to speak with detectives on February 24 but failed to show up.

“The passport number was issued to Dr Okengo Matiangi on January 12, 2022. He is also a holder of a diplomatic passport. “He departed on February 19, 2023, through JKIA on KLM flight number KL 566,” the immigration office revealed.
